Intoxication of Hope

What kept me awake last night?
No, not caffeine ingested late
but hope, the possible solution
to an insurmountable problem
piled on all the others,
painful, worsening, at the core of everything.

The evident solution was obvious,
easy even, now clearly seen.
It may be only a direction to head
not the final steps,

or it may be the longed for, prayed for
answer to everything
or this one vital energy-zapping crucial thing…
intoxicating.
