In the Rain: Randolph St., Chicago

Colored lights
in stripes on
rain-slick pavement.

Red and green and
marquee white
enhanced by

encroaching night.
Catch the vision
between swipes

of the wiping blade
look between drops and
snap a shot that

sees what I see,
through the eye
through the lens

trapped in a black box
retrievable again.
Mistakes risked

imperfect attempts
the thrill of hopefulness
temporary though it is.
