For My Baby Sister

Perhaps the tide has turned
with this one surprising test result.
The unrelenting unbroken string of bad news

snapped and from now on (I whisper)
although an uphill climb
redemption is guaranteed.

Oh, I would vote for that!
I would put in my coin,
I would leave my heart unarmored

and risk it all again.
Not to save you,
but to keep you here

to have those sister talks
and laugh until we pee.
Laugh and remember

and cry sometimes.
And that last hug
is not the last hug

and we walk on together
for a long time still
hand in hand as always.
